Did You Know?

In-kind donations of new and gently used items are received by Love INC to be sorted, repaired, cleaned, laundered, sized, folded, packed, and delivered to our Partner Network for distribution to those we serve. Items like clothing for adults, children, and infants, shoes for adults and children, bed, bath, and kitchen supplies, furniture, and durable medical equipment fall into this category.

But did you know that others members of our Partner Network must purchase inventory for the clients they serve? This list includes items like diapers, wipes, and baby supplies, hygiene kits, backpacks and school supplies, bus passes, gas vouchers, and pool passes (for showers). A number of caring individuals and generous organizations support our Church and Community Partners in procuring specific items on this list on a ongoing basis or donating the money required to purchase them each month.

Three areas where demand is currently outpacing supply are:

   1) Personal and Home Care Items that cannot be purchased with an EBT card including paper products, cleaning products, and personal care/hygiene items. Supplies of toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and deoderant are often in short supply.

   2) Quarters for Loads of Love, Love INC’s laundry ministry for people without affordable access to laundry equipment. Each month, Love INC receives approximately 2,000 quarters (nearly $500), which volunteers use to plug washers and dryers for 8-9 families that have no other way to launder their clothes. The current need is closer to $3,200 ($800) each month so we have a waiting list of people who are waiting and hoping for clean clothes in the near future.

   3) Gas Vouchers for clients heading to job interviews, court appearances, doctor, dentist, or legal appointments, or other special situations. We currently receive $40/month from one of our Partner Churches, which purchases just two $20 gas cards. Current demand is 5-6 times greater with 2-3 clients per week requesting help with gas for necessary trips.

If you are willing and able to help, please consider picking up some of these items on your next visit to the grocery store. Perhaps you can pick up a roll or two of quarters next time you run to the bank or purchase a $20 gift card the next time you fill up your tank. If you want to write a check instead and designate funds for one or more of these specific needs, our volunteers will do the shopping for you.

Thanks in advance for your kind and generous response to these needs. We appreciate all you do to meet needs, serve people, and make a difference in the lives of real people with real needs right here in North Marion County.
